Most people realize that high employee turnover is closely correlated with business dysfunction. The prevailing tendency, however, is to assume that attrition is a trailing indicator. In other words, that it is a consequence of poor business performance.
In fact, voluntary turnover, especially of experienced personnel is a leading indicator and a primary factor in deteriorating business performance. The stages described below are very closely correlated with relative turnover numbers within an industry.
